Cedar Rapids, Iowa- As part of the DOE’s SunShot Initiative, the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) and the Midwest Grow Solar Partnership are launching their fifth state-level conference to advance markets for solar photovoltaic (PV) energy in the Midwest. Registration is officially open for the Solar Powering Iowa Conference scheduled for March 23-24, 2016 at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Much like previous Solar Powering Conferences held in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan, the focus will be on bringing people together to build the capacity to grow solar in Iowa. The conference will give utilities, policy makers, lenders, contractors, developers, and local governments the resources and networks needed to define opportunities in the solar market and advance projects.

“We are very excited to offer a variety of national and local speakers that will address market fundamentals, discuss emerging opportunities, and share case studies and resources that demonstrate the potential of solar PV for Iowa homes, businesses, utilities, and communities,” said Nick Hylla, Executive Director of the MREA. “With the current opportunities available for Iowa municipalities, universities, schools, and hospitals through cost-effective leasing of PV systems as well as new models for electric utilities to offer PV to their ratepayers, Iowa is poised to be a regional leader in solar PV development in the coming years.”

On Wednesday, March 23rd there will be a full day of professional training. Here participants can earn Continuing Education Credits while learning about PV system design, National Electric Code updates, PV system inspection, PV Sales and Finance, and a suite of product-specific trainings.

On March 24th, the event will be packed with an energizing mix of large-group speakers, breakout sessions, networking time, regional and national keynotes, including addresses from the founder of Clean Energy Works, and current U.S. Department of Energy Senior Policy Advisor, Dr. Holmes Hummel, and Iowa native, NFL alum, and renewable energy advocate, Tim Dwight.

Interested parties can take advantage of the early bird ticket rate and attend the conference for only $99.00 through February 17th and join the discussion of how homes, businesses, communities, and their utilities can take advantage of solar opportunities.

Solar Powering Iowa is an MREA and Grow Solar event, made possible by our partners Iowa Solar Energy Trade Association, Great Plains Institute, Center for Rural Affairs, Environmental Law & Policy Center, and Winneshiek Energy District.
