Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is seeking qualified firms to submit proposals for the design, procurement, and installation of new, residential and commercial, direct-owned photovoltaic systems at a per-watt price lower than the typical, single solar electric installation.
The group buy program is being led by the MREA with the goal of increasing familiarity of solar PV investments and advancing installations on homes and businesses in the Wisconsin counties of Portage, Wood, Waupaca, and Marathon. As part of the program, the MREA is selecting a qualified contractor through a competitive process and will host a series of free information sessions for interested home and business owners.
Between 2013 and 2017, the MREA facilitated fourteen Solar Group Buys around the Midwest, reaching over 4,000 individuals with our Solar Power Hour information sessions, and leading to over 3,700 kW on nearly 600 properties. Among those property owners who received site assessments/cost estimates for installations through these programs, the average proportion that decided to go solar through the program is 40.85%.
The group buy is being done with the support of representatives from the City of Stevens Point, City of Wisconsin Rapids, Mid-State Technical College, and local community groups. The MREA will work to expand the group of supporting jurisdictions and organizations throughout the durations of the program. MREA and local partners will coordinate and deliver 15 free, public Solar Power Hour information sessions and market them widely with physical posters, email blasts, paid social media promotion, yard signs, and in the press.
