Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is seeking qualified firms to submit proposals for the design, procurement, and installation of new, residential or business, direct-owned photovoltaic systems at a per-watt price lower than the typical, single solar electric installation.
The Solar Chippewa Valley group buy is being led by Midwest Renewable Energy Association in partnership with Chippewa Valley Affordable Solar. The goal of the Solar Chippewa Valley group buy is to increase solar education and installations in the Chippewa Valley area through a group purchase and competitive bidding process.
The Solar Chippewa Valley Group Buy project is being done with full support of the City of Eau Claire, Chippewa Valley Technical College and with wide publicity and awareness in the area.
With support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s SunShot program, the MREA is coordinating efforts among various Midwest organizations and municipalities to build an open and advantageous solar market that provides long-term benefits to communities. This RFP effort between MREA and Chippewa Valley Affordable Solar is an example of this cooperation.

Q and A
Of the interested Group Buy attendees, how many of those Group Buy leads are strong potential customers? Could you please provide more information how MREA or SCVGBP are able to ascertain between a potential lead vs someone who is ‘just interested in solar’?
We have a list of over 70 people who have expressed interest in the group buy project. Of these we have talked with some who have said they are ready to go ahead with a solar install. There have been some who expressed interest in learning what they will need to plan for in preparation for a near future install. However, there is of course no way to know for sure who will sign a contract until they actually do so. We have not recorded where in the process people on the list are in terms of making a decision.
