New program name, same program values, but more solar, and it’s that simple.
The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), the Citizens Utility Board of Illinois (CUB), and iChoosr are seeking qualified firms to participate in the design, procurement, and installation of new residential and small commercial photovoltaic (PV) systems at a per-watt price lower than the prevailing single system market rate.
Solar Switch Chicagoland educates consumers and makes the installation of PV systems more accessible and affordable in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will Counties, IL. Consumers are participating in a group purchase that reduces the overall cost of installation and includes additional benefits such as a competitive contractor selection process, advantageous pricing, and free information sessions and site assessments.
The program is offered by the MREA, CUB, and iChoosr, along with municipal and local partners. The MREA and iChoosr will coordinate and deliver a target of at least 10 free, public Solar Power Hour information sessions and market them widely with email blasts, paid social media promotion, promotional partnerships, press releases, and more.

As an installer taking part in our program, we expect that you act as the main contractor and are responsible for the delivery of the goods and the work in order to finalize the installation.
We assess all installers wishing to take part in the group-buying program. The main criteria we’re looking for are an ability to manage and plan projects throughout the program, track and record the customer journey, and financial stability. You will need to be able to conduct a large number of installs in a 5-6 month period.
All qualified installers can compete on the day of the auction with their best offer. The winning offer(s) will be presented to participants of the group-buying program.
Interested installers should respond to by April 28, 2023.

Between 2013 and 2022, the MREA facilitated 60 solar groups buy programs around the Midwest, reaching over 13,500 individuals with our Solar Power Hour information sessions, and leading to more than 20 MW on over 2,700 properties. Among those who attended our presentations, an average of 20% purchased a PV system. To date, the average system size is 7.3 kW. Since 2019, our Chicagoland programs have resulted in 280 solar installations.
